NEK Fall Foliage Festivals 2026

September 8, 2026

When and where to find the best of Fall in the NEK

The fall colors, the cozy sweaters, the apple cider, the apple cider donuts!

There are so many reasons to love fall, and fall-foliage festivals are where they all come together. Lucky for us, the Northeast Kingdom is the heart of Vermont's fall-foliage festival scene.

Whether you're flying into Vermont by way of Burlington or road-tripping in, you'll want to make time for a scenic drive into Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Use this guide to plan your visit.

Local tips

Make the Most of your Fall Foliage adventures by abiding these tips from locals.

  • Fall colors mean fall weather

Any Vermonter will tell you, you can experience all 4 seasons in the course of a day. This is especially true in the fall when temperatures can vary noticeably from morning to afternoon, and nighttime. Plus, most of the following events are rain or shine and primarily outdoors.

Pack layers, and while you're at it, consider shoes that can handle a bit of off-roading over dirt paths and town greens.

  • Cash is king

Many vendors will only be set up for cash sales in the first place. Others may gamble on card sales, only to find cell-service isn't cooperating that day.

Bring cash for the day and never miss out on your chance to snag that souvenir or tasty treat!

  • Drive like a Vermonter

Fall foliage season takes our already unparalleled gravel biking scene to a whole other level, so be prepared to share the road with bicyclists.

Abide the speed limit and be on the lookout for cyclists, pedestrians, or wildlife around any corner.
